Pelican Lake School tranformed into Pelican Yacht Club

Upon closing, many he old school houses were repurposed into homes.

When Pelican Lake School closed back in 1967 the building was moved to Ninette and turned into the illustrious Pelican Yacht Club!

The original Pelican Lake Protestant School No. 337 had humble beginnings.

During a meeting of school trustees in January of 1885, the location and size of the school was decided on and not long after construction began. The 18 feet by 24 feet frame building complete with 10 foot ceilings was formally opened May 1, 1886.

It didn’t take long before that school house was used for more than just educating the children in the area.

A variety of social community events were also held in the school house, bringing people from near and far together.

Over the years the school was a place of learning for many people in the area, who look back on their time there with great fondness.
Pelican Lake School was closed in 1967, with students then being split in between the Ninette and Belmont catchment areas.

According to the story published on history on the Pelican Yacht Club website, the Pelican Yacht Club was formally founded in August 1965 and after Pelican School closed and was available to be repurposed, the Pelican Yacht Club purchased it, and had the building moved to its current location where it stands tall and proud next to beautiful Pelican Lake in Ninette.
