Prairie Wind Music Festival continues to grow
All that can be said is WOW!
Starting Friday night the huge audience was treated to Jacob Brodovsky, a folk singer-songwriter from Winnipeg, who was the winner of the Canadian Folk Music Award for English Songwriter of the Year in the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2024.
Next up was Andy Chamberlain, Ben Wytinck and Dan Russel, three extremely talented musicians who perform under the name Littleton.
Unfortunately, the writer was unable to stay to listen to Space Race, but I can share that they were given rave reviews from the audience!
Saturday, the old school grounds came alive with fun, food and music, starting with yoga, and a huge assortment of children’s activities including the Tiger Hills Arts Association coordinators that always have the very best in creativity and fun.
On stage, opening ceremonies started at 12 sharp and the music didn’t stop until late in the day.
The Fu Fu Chi Chi Choir never fails to bring fun and energy to the stage, giving their all to entertain a very receptive crowd.
Next up was Dominique Adams, an alternative folk singer/song writer from Winnipeg who quickly had the audience enchanted.
Cheering for the Bad Guys, known for their hard-luck storytelling and energetic, genre-bending sound, blending traditional acoustic country elements with the fast, aggressive spirit of punk rock lit up the stage with frontman Sheldon Birnie engaging the audience and making them part of the set.
The Reverend Rambler is a Prairie Wind Music Festival icon who has taken the stage for many years, and continues to shoot the lights out. His rythm and blues inspired music is quick to hook the audience and take them on his musical ride.
Tired Cossack was anything but tired. Described as Post-punk, shoegaze-inspired indie rock, with the odd alt-country twang they are genre bending in the best way possible, they were simply amazing.
Irvin Miller, singer/songwriter and musician, is one of those young performers that is sure to be going places. His traditional country, blues, gospel and old-school R&B music , melds perfectly with his soulful voice. While the ease that he engages with his audience is nothing short of remarkable.
Winding up the Saturday musical line up was Show Pony, a perfect marriage of glitz and glamour and a melding of rock and roll and punk, and they do it all very, very well!
As the Festival wound down the next day, the much loved Three Berts entertained the crowd on Sunday morning.
Besides the best music anywhere, fun, games, and drinks, the weekend also hosted Prairie Wind Music Festival merchandise, an artisan market that had something for everyone and the Encore 2nd Hand Store was open and ready for treasure hunters to find their new must haves.
