Glenboro Fair & Demolition Derby a real success
A huge crowd turned out for the Pancake Breakfast held at the Glenboro Hall on August 15.
Outside, the many vendors were kept busy with lines forming for trinkets, treasures and furs. The petting zoo did not disappoint with sweet little babies and miniatures just waiting to get a good ear scratch.
The Odd Couple played a vast array of music from old to new getting toes tapping and even a few people up dancing.
There were many new additions to the kids play area that were very well received, with the most popular (after the bouncy castles) was the foam machine that was spitting out mounds of suds.
There was great food, an extremely well done miniature horse show with many beautiful horses competing, lots of fun and great treasures to be had, but at 1 p.m. all eyes were on the Demolition Derby.
The Glenboro Demolition Derby is a summer highlight, and it did not disappoint the huge number of spectators that turned out to watch it this year.
Estimates ranged from 400 to 500 spectators this year who were treated to one of the best derbys yet.
Loren Nelson, owner/operator of H & L Motors who sponsors a demolition car every year said; “This is our 33rd Derby, and we plan on being here for every one of them until they are no more.”
And with that, the 5 competing cars starting rolling into the pit for the first round, the entrance was sealed and the horn blew.
It didn’t take long for pieces of cars to start flying and motors to start steaming. One car was pushed out of the pit balancing on the mud wall, while another just gave up.
Three cars survived the first round limping out of the pit.
Each round took out more cars with very few left for the final battle.
This year a Van round was also hosted.
The Powder Puff round showed that the ladies are better demolition drivers than the guys (sorry but it’s true) the women were vicious when it came to trying to take out their opponents!
The Mechanics Special is always great to watch and this year we were treated to a car with only three wheels giving it all it had to get to the number one spot. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen this year:

Organizer Steve Nelson commented he was very pleased with the turn out of vehicles and spectators. “We had 11 cars and four vans this year and the crowd is amazing! The Glenboro Ag Fair and the Demolition Derby are great events for our town. They bring people from all over and that really benefits everyone.”
