Pleasant Valley area flooded
Pleasant Valley Golf Course, as well as the yards in the area, populated with many homes and cabins, were covered in water that kept rising.
One homeowner out surveying the water, is quoted as saying, “This is crazy, just crazy. I never thought we would see water like this here. I don’t know where all this water is coming from. Our home is higher than most others, but we could still be flooded out. I’m worried about our neighbours. I don’t know if everyone has been notified about what is going on yet.”
We reached out to Chad Berry to ask what this flood could mean for the golf course and its condition this season. “The golf course will be fine. In the end, we will have some equipment and building damage, but I think the grass is still dormant. I am much more concerned for the cottage and home owners who are getting water in their cabins and homes.”
According to the RM of Prairie Lakes CAO Kevin Cameron, the water issue started due to an ice jam on the Pembina River. It was an unexpected event that a department within Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (previously known as the Manitoba Highways Department) addressed as quickly as possible, bringing a trackhoe to the ice jam area to break up the obstruction and get the water moving down the river.
Information received late Monday indicated the water covering Pleasant Valley Golf Course and the surrounding areas was receding.
