2026 Snowman Contest winners announced
Recently, a Snowman Contest was held in Baldur and Glenora, with our roving Gazette photographer and myself tasked as judges. All the entries were great, and we received many of them, making it very difficult to narrow down the finalists.
We visited each submission to get a first-hand look at the snow art and graded them carefully on the following points rating system designed for this contest: Size – 20 points, Construction quality- 20 points, Use of accessories – 20 points, Expressive face 20 points, Snow pet – 20 points.
We were surprised not to see one snow pet!
The winner, with a total score of 80 points, was a team of four: Avery and Everett Janz (parents Leanna and Jesse Janz) and Brooks and Emery Parsonage (parents Jaiclyn and Bradley Parsonage).
Unfortunately, the warm weather had played havoc with all the snowman submissions in the contest. Fortunately, the excellent construction of the winning snow family submission meant that, even with all the melting, they remained standing strong.
As you can see from the smiles, the entire team was pretty excited about winning.
I asked Avery how they came up with the idea of their snow family. “Well, we were going to do four snowmen, but we were getting tired, so we stopped at three.”
When asked how long she thought it took the team to get this snow family together. “I think it was about 2 hours. It was pretty fun being outside and doing that.” Avery’s brother Everett nodded in agreement.
Brooks added.”I saw my friends making them, so I wanted to do it too. It was fun.”
“This contest was a great way to get the kids outside and working together,” shared Leanna. Jaiclyn went on to say, “it really was a great way to get them all working together as a team, something that is good to start learning that early on.”
We enjoyed all of the submissions we received, and congratulations to the winners!
The prizes awarded were donated by anonymous donors.
