The Storybook Walk at Spruce Woods Provincial Park

The Storybook Walk installations at Spruce Woods Park were completed last year, and after adding some finishing touches, they were proudly unveiled this past weekend.

Ann Lanoutte, a spokesperson for Friends of Spruce Woods, emphasizes that this is the only storybook walk in a provincial park, making it a unique and exciting attraction!

Ann shared that the planning for this installation kicked off during the COVID shutdown, a period that inspired numerous innovative ways to encourage outdoor activity while ensuring safety and social distancing. “I knew the storybook walk would be a perfect addition to the Park; all it took was securing the necessary approvals to set everything in motion,” she said.

Thanks to the unwavering dedication and perseverance of the Friends of Spruce Woods, visitors can now enjoy an exciting and wholly unique adventure in the Park.

Ann announced that two little libraries are currently in the planning stages, with completion dates to be provided soon.
She also mentioned that; “During May and June, we will be changing the Storybook Walk books once a month. In the busier months, we plan to switch them out once a week, and we may reduce the number to two books in September, depending on how busy we are at the Park.”

Additionally, she shared that the Friends of Spruce Woods will also be installing an accessible swing in the lower campground playground.

The Storybook Walk begins at the playground next to Pine Fort IV. It follows the trail along the river, passes the Fort, and continues to the Gift Shop.

Ann also acknowledged that, “All the Park staff have been amazing, helpful, and supportive – not only with the Storybook Walk, but with all of our projects. They truly make this Park a wonderful place in every way.”

The Friends of Spruce Woods do not receive any grants or government funding. They complete all their projects using funds from public donations, gift shop sales and equestrian campground fees.

Come out and explore the new Storybook Walk, and enjoy reading your way to fun and adventure!
