Ice fishing shacks to be removed by March 15

Our local lakes are dotted with fishing shacks, highlighting the popularity of ice fishing in the area.

Unfortunately, each year, there is some confusion regarding when these shacks should be removed, which is understandable given that rules vary by location.

According to the Manitoba 2024 Anglers Guide, we are in Area B. This means that all shacks must be removed on or before March 15th, 2025, or when requested to do so by a Conservation Officer due to unsafe ice conditions.

The Guide also states that all unattended shelters must clearly display the owner’s name and phone number on the outside, using block letters that are at least 5 cm in height. Additionally, any shacks removed from the ice must be stored or disposed of away from the shore or placed on private property.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Manitoba Economic Development, Investment, Trade, and Natural Resources for our region at 1-204-726-6441.

While you may feel sad that the ice fishing season is coming to an end, it also means that warm weather and open water fishing will be starting soon!
