Local Rendezvous camp comes to a close after 26 years
This year marks the final Rendezvous camp after 26 years.
This year, even with the rainy weather, a group of dedicated Rendezvous campers arrived to enjoy a weekend of friendship, camaraderie, and stepping back in time.
The white canvas tents methodically popped up one by one, filling the expansive green space and creating a community that emulates a camp from over two centuries ago.
There was much hustle and bustle in setting everything up and getting things just right.
As the camp came together, a fire was started, and the aroma of food cooking filled the air.
As the campers came together to enjoy their first camp meal, there were many smiles, good-natured ribbing, and much laughter. You may remember Thomas Corry from previous articles, who again shared his culinary expertise with the other camp members. Thomas has researched recipes from that period and used them for supper fare, and in Thomas’s own words, “no one has ever complained”.
Watching the campers come together, you feel transported, being able to see and experience life the way it used to be.
The many hours of rainfall over the weekend didn’t dampen the spirits of the campers, with smoke billowing from the various campsites and the smell of coffee filling the morning air.
Back in the day, there was more work than play, but this weekend, life is just better.
With this being the last official Rendezvous camp to be held at this location, we will be sharing more details of the weekend in next week’s edition, with some insights from those involved, and perhaps we will be able to get a recipe or two from the camp chef.
