The importance of our community halls
When a town loses its community hall, it also loses a huge part of its history, social anchor and gathering place.
Fortunately, many of our small towns are fortunate to have retained their local halls that remain the heart and soul of the communities, bringing residents together for so many events, maintaining a buzz of activity and strengthening social networks.
Over the years activities held in halls have grown and changed.
In days gone by, many halls hosted movie nights, bringing feature films to small towns. Movie nights were always a big hit no matter where they were held.
Unfortunately with the advent of television, movies took a backseat, with more elaborate theatres being delegated to larger centres.
Dances and concerts are still held, but in days gone by they were held with much more frequency.
Although times have changed, halls are still used to bring community members together for community events, celebrations, and in times of mourning.
The importance of our community halls means we have to work together to ensure they will be taken care of, upgraded and maintained for generations to come, so they are able to continue to provide a space for weddings, socials, senior suppers, school Christmas concerts, Town Halls and so much more.
