Cypress River Volunteer Pancake Breakfast a success
Organizer Ellen Law was able to give us a breakdown of the events that followed the Cypress River Volunteer Pancake Breakfast that was held on October 4 in the Cypress River Memorial Hall.
The Cypress River History Book committee was available at the event to answer questions about submitting a family history. Local community groups are encouraged to submit their stories from the last 26 years. The sheer number of past and present organizations made it clear how many stories there are to tell.
After the presentations, attendees formed random teams to play a Jeopardy game hosted by our EDO, Michaela Graham, and of course Alex, played by her partner, Trevor. The game showcased the projection and sound system recently installed in the building.
Each team chose a category and unveiled a question about Cypress River, then and now. These multigenerational teams enjoyed putting their heads together to collectively come up with both well-known and obscure facts about Cypress River. Some information for the questions came from the original history book published in 1985, some from the Addendum, and some from events held in town this year. Two teams were tied, with the winner being the one closest to guess the population of Cypress River in the first census. The winning team became individuals for the Final Jeopardy question, and Linda Truelove won the $100 gift certificate to a Cypress River business of her choice. Participants shared lots of positive feedback about the experience.
Debbie Robidoux won the door prize: a 2027 newsletter subscription and two tickets to Prairie Wind 2027. Other winners of $15 gift certificates to Tea-A-Maria were randomly chosen from people in attendance who have not yet had the chance to eat at this local venue. Outside the hall was a beautiful display of pumpkins from Caleigh McCreery of Maple Bend Acres. Volunteer Manitoba gave Stephanie a potted plant from their business in appreciation for their part in the event.
Suzanne Paddock graciously offered her photography skills for an outdoor fall photo that could potentially be used for the history book.
Sunrise Credit Union provided the games for children set up during the breakfast.
Funding for the event came from grants sourced by our EDO, Michaela Graham. The community would like to thank Michaela for working tirelessly to pull this event together.
The event was very well organized, with everyone in attendance having the time of their lives!
