Aggies fundraiser pushes through the area

The University of Manitoba’s Agricultural students, proudly known as the Aggies, have established a beloved tradition with their Bedpush Fundraisers!

What started as support for the Winnipeg Fire Fighters Burn Unit has evolved into a highly anticipated event that not only raises funds but also fosters community spirit through various charities chosen by the student body.

For over 30 years, these passionate students have pushed the same bed along a remarkable 221 km route between Winnipeg and Brandon, raising awareness and funds for a variety of noble causes. In recent years, this route has shifted from the Trans-Canada Highway to the lively main streets of Manitoba’s communities, where the public has responded overwhelmingly positively!

This annual event brings excitement and joy while successfully generating funds for numerous impactful charities, including the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba, Manitoba Farmers with Disabilities, and the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation.

This year, Charity Representatives Sophia Friesen and Sawyer Duncalfe from the Faculty of Agriculture Students’ Organization (FASO) shared their commitment: “This year, we have again chosen STARS and the Manitoba Farmers Wellness Program as our charities of choice. The donations collected will be split evenly between these two organizations. With everyone’s support, we will make a difference!”

The Aggies travelled through several towns this year, starting from the U of M on Friday and stopping in Starbuck, Elm Creek, Holland, Cypress River, Glenboro, and Carberry. On Saturday, they continued their mission with visits to Souris, Wawanesa, Killarney, Mariapolis, Somerset, Notre Dame, and Carman. Finally, on Sunday, the team concluded their journey in Miami, Plum Coulee, Morris, and Sanford before heading back home to the U of M.

It’s truly inspiring to witness the Aggies come together, raising funds while creating lasting memories along the way!
