Baldur Recreation Centre upgrade begins
The Baldur Rec Centre has developed a 3-phase plan for upgrades to the building that will create an outstanding facility that will last at least another fifty years. We are excited to announce that Phase One of the project is about to begin.
Last month we received the news that our grant application to the Province’s ‘From the Ground up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program’ was accepted and just over $80,000 will be heading our way. This is more than half of what we expect the works will cost for this phase so have decided to get the ball rolling. When this phase is complete, the facility will have a new wheelchair accessible entrance, a lift to move those with mobility issues from the main floor to the viewing lounge upstairs (and back down!), a family/accessible washroom and a new larger men’s washroom.
We will be starting to fundraise for this phase as well intend to continue building as the funds come in. We have applied for further grants for those phases but have not heard if we were successful yet. Phase Two will see new dressing rooms, a referee room and a Zamboni shed built on the north side of the hockey rink, with Phase Three installing artificial ice on the hockey side.
This is an ambitious plan but our board feels it is attainable and will provide the community with a very useable and complete facility. However, we will need the support of the community so please help out where you can. We will soon be announcing several fundraising opportunities including an event planned on April 10, 2027 at the Rec. Centre.
