Glenboro Ag Society receives $10,000 boost
The Co-op Community Match Fund, in cooperation with the Glenboro Co-op food store, provided the Glenboro Ag Society with a $10,000 financial boost.
According to the Federated Co-op website, the Community Match Fund is designed to unite Federated Co-operative Limited (FCL) and local co-ops to support the communities they serve.
Local co-ops determine where to invest, and FCL matches those contributions to enhance the reach and impact of community initiatives. By combining local insights with shared support, the Community Match Fund (Fund) helps strengthen positive impacts across the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS).
The Fund aims to support larger, strategic community investments that deliver measurable benefits and strengthen local co-ops over the long term. Local co-ops are encouraged to prioritize investments that:
– Address a clearly identified community need or opportunity aligned with the local co-op’s focus areas.
– Align with at least one local co-op business priority (e.g., member growth, loyalty, revenue, employee engagement, brand visibility, or new commodity/store locations).
– Create lasting impacts beyond one-time support, including a clear plan for how the co-op will continue to build and leverage this partnership over time.
– Involve a strong, well-aligned community partner or collaborative partnership.
– Offer meaningful opportunities for co-op involvement, storytelling, or visibility.
– Support clear outcomes that demonstrate both community and business benefits.
The local co-op selects the Community Partner Fund recipient, which must be a registered non-profit, registered charity, or community service co-operative. The local co-op also secures the funds FCL must match, up to the allocated maximum match allocation.
The activation process begins with the local co-op identifying a community investment opportunity and ensuring it meets all eligibility criteria. The local co-op then completes the match activation request, outlines the investment details, and submits it for approval. The Social Responsibility team confirms (or denies) eligibility, verifies the requested match amount, and approves the request for the local co-op.
This year, the Community Match Fund granted $10,000 ($5,000 from Glenboro Co-op and $5,000 from FCL) to the Glenboro Agricultural Society.
Glenboro Co-op Manager Val Mocan presented Ag Society Board member Kyla Coleman with the donation cheque.
Kyla expressed the following sentiment on behalf of the Ag Society:
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Glenboro Co-op for their generous donation of $5,000, which was matched by FCL for a total of $10,000. We will be using these funds for a new projector and projector screen for the Glenboro Community Hall.
This project is estimated to cost $20,000.
Other projects we are planning include:
– Adding new campsites to the grounds
– Constructing new campground bathrooms.
Our Fairgrounds and Community Hall are the heart of our events. We are deeply grateful for the support our local co-op has given us to help repair and renew these spaces.”
Local businesses like the Glenboro Co-op play a vital role in our communities for many reasons. To ensure our local businesses continue to thrive and grow, it is essential that we continue to support local and shop local.
