Glenboro High School Drama delivers ‘Myth-Understood’

Congratulations to director Meagan McGill and her talented cast of 12 for bringing ‘Myth-Understood’, a one-act comedy, to life over the weekend at the school theatre.

The story begins with two teens, played by Aidyn Vallotton and Lucy Griffin, who vent to each other about how bored they are with their recent assignment and try to come up with a way to retell the Ancient Greek tales with a fresh spin while still earning an A. Their plans quickly take an unexpected turn when they are visited by Hermes, played by Matt Tirschman, complete with winged helmet and all.

The two students are soon whisked away to Mount Olympus, where a colourful cast of gods and goddesses retell their famous myths from a more favourable perspective.

In a quest to be worshipped once again, Zeus, played by Nathan Nepinak, and the other gods and goddesses put a more positive and colourfully humorous spin on their version of events.

From Medusa, played by Molly Morrison, simply wanting to be noticed, to Eurydice, played by Nehaeh Zebrasky, quickly tiring of Orpheus’s (Aidyn Vallotton) attention, and Paris, played by Issac Coleman McGillis, having to choose who should receive his golden apple on the reality TV show Apple of His Eye, the two teens become both surprised and captivated by the stories now being told, shedding a completely different light on their report.

Along with the colourful tales being shared, the audience was also kept on the edge of their seats as Eagle, played by Lars Tagadiad, made a number of unexpected appearances throughout the production.

Tyler Anderson played the perfect host as he welcomed the Furies (Keyanna Caron), Chiron (Hanna Potter), and Pandora (Maryn McGill) to set their records straight by dispelling stories from the past. The only problem was that the mythological figures might not exactly have been telling the truth.

While the recommended cast size for Jackie Martin’s screenplay ranges between 18 and 47 performers, Mrs. McGill’s drama club of 12 successfully pulled off every character, with each actor taking on three different roles throughout the production.

During a few words of welcome prior to the play, McGill also thanked Trina Langan, Brittany Wallis, and Stacey Myers for their help organizing the props, sets, costumes, hair, and makeup. Student Teller Fulford aptly handled the lighting, while Donalee Jones of Smile Co. provided the microphones.
