Glenboro Golf Course clubhouse officially reopened
.Following three months of renovations prompted by a burst water pipe over the winter, the Glenboro Golf and Country Club is officially back in full swing. To mark the occasion, the club hosted a highly successful Grand Reopening celebration on Friday, July 25, featuring a mixed tournament, ribbon cutting ceremony, and a delicious brisket supper.
A total of 127 golfers took part in the tournament, which included two shotgun starts at 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The event welcomed mixed teams and even a few junior groups, showcasing the club’s commitment to encouraging all ages and skill levels.
Emceeing the event was Travis Cline, who highlighted several milestones the club has celebrated over the past year. Among them was the record-breaking feat by Dylan Thornborough and Patrick Law, who unofficially completed 333 holes in under 12 hours during the Marathon Monday Cancer Fundraiser last July. Cline also acknowledged the generous donation of the gazebo on the east side of the clubhouse by the Al Greer family and numerous other momentous moments in the club’s history.
During the renovations, the clubhouse received a significant facelift. The building was drywalled, and key systems like the air conditioning, fridges, and freezers were replaced. Most of the kitchen cabinets were repaired, while the washroom cabinetry received full upgrades. Although all the windows had to be replaced, the building’s exterior remained intact. “We took the opportunity to update the lighting while the ceiling was opened up,” explained Alice Barr, who served on the renovation committee.
As some golfers were wrapping up supper and others were preparing for their 5:30 p.m. tee-off, Cline invited Alice Barr and clubhouse manager Jennifer Nichols to hold the ceremonial ribbon. The honor of cutting it was given to Cory Lawson of Cancade Restoration. “Cory didn’t only work extremely hard to meet our timeline, he also lined up as many local tradesmen as he could, keeping everything running smoothly. That’s why our Board expressed he should be the one to cut the ribbon,” Cline told the full house.
“While there is still some work to be completed in the basement, we are fully up and running,” added Nichols. “And we kicked off our first Chase the Ace on Tuesday, July 22, which will continue every Tuesday through the end of summer.”
With the clubhouse buzzing once again and golfers back on the greens, the Glenboro Golf and Country Club is swinging into the season with momentum on a course that is said to be in excellent shape this season. And with weekly Chase the Ace draws now underway every Tuesday and the kitchen fully operational there’s even more reason for members and guests to keep coming back – because the best is yet to come.
