Glenboro Class of 1975 celebrate 50 years
A gathering of 23 former students accompanied by thirteen spouses and 2 former staff celebrated 50 years at the Glenboro Golf and Country Club on June 28th.
The weekend began with a smaller group of 12 touring the school Friday afternoon capably led by Principal Ryan Diehl. This brought back so many memories as our class was the 2nd class to graduate from the new high school addition which was opened in the fall of 1973. We had started out in the original elementary building in 1963 with a class of 31 all from Glenboro. Hilton school students joined us in Grade 4 after the closure of that school, students from Stockton united with us in Grade 5 followed by Cypress River in Grade 8 and finally Belmont in Grade 10. There were 37 graduates who received diplomas in 1975.
We were fortunate to have spent grade 9 and 10 in the old high school which had been built in the late 1800’s and demolished in 1973. Our principal Mr. Garth McIntyre and his wife Wilda built a house on that site. The Stockton School, which had been moved from Stockton and adjoined the to the high school (along with 4 classroom huts to accommodate the expanding high school population) is now the Stockton Apartments and located next to their home.
Following our school tour, we visited the Burrough of the Gleann Museum and finished up that evening at the fairgrounds campgrounds.
We commend staff of the Golf Course Clubhouse who capably accommodated our group despite the current renovations. We had a great time revisiting old memories and enjoying the stories. Lots of laughs and great times!
