Memorial bench placed in honour of Rosalie Sigurdson
A memorial bench in honour of Rosalie Sigurdson has been installed in a quiet and picturesque spot just west of the Interpretive Centre and Gift Shop in Spruce Woods Provincial Park.
On June 21, a small group of family and friends gathered in Spruce Woods Provincial Park for a dedication ceremony at the site of a newly installed memorial bench honouring Rosalie Sigurdson.
Lynne Bartram read a short but deeply meaningful speech to the gathering during the dedication.
The inscription on the bench reads:
In memory of a special friend of Spruce Woods Park – Rosalie Sigurdson.
The bench has been thoughtfully positioned in a quiet oasis located at the end of the newly unveiled storybook walk, near a thicket of trees, and facing the serene waters of the Assiniboine River.
Serving as a heartfelt memorial to her enduring legacy, it is more than just a seat; it is a place for reflection, a spot for visitors to pause and appreciate the beauty around them, just as Rosalie did.
Rosalie was a founding member of the Friends of Spruce Woods Park, dedicating nearly three decades of her life from 1986 until 2016 to its growth and development.
Her commitment to the park was unparalleled, including her leadership in establishing the equestrian campgrounds and meticulously mapping and marking the 120 kms of riding trails.
Her contributions went beyond the park, as she was actively involved in various other organizations, leaving a lasting impact on our community.
Rosalie Sigurdson was not just a steward of Spruce Woods Park; she was a beacon of passion and dedication, reminding us all to cherish our natural surroundings and leave behind a legacy of beauty for future generations.
