Glenboro JV Panthers Boys take home A/AA Basketball provincial banner

The gymnasium of Ross L. Gray School was echoing with cheers, whistles and clapping as the Glenboro/Baldur Panthers Boys A/AA Basketball team ended the fourth quarter of the final game against Emmanuel Christian of Winnipeg with a score of 45-37. “This marks the first time in Glenboro or Baldur’s history that the team has come home with the provincial banner,” exclaimed Coach Devin McLean. The provincial championship, held in Sprague over the past weekend, featured 8 teams vying for the coveted banner.

Although the Panthers were seeded 4th going into the tournament, Coach McLean commented that he was pretty confident they would finish in the top three. Minnedosa Chancellors were the first team the Panthers met up with on the court. The Chancellors had only lost 3 games all season, two of which were to the Panthers. The game was close, the score at a tie many times throughout the third quarter. But the Panthers proved victorious when the whistle sounded in the last quarter with a score of 61-58.

The game against Roblin’s Goose Lake Raiders was very similar although they were tied in the fourth quarter the Panthers took the lead ending the game with a score of 81-68. Coach McLean commented that this win was super sweet, as it was rather a grudge match as Roblin is who the boys lost to in the Volleyball semi finals.

During the final game against Emmanuel Christian, the Panthers led early and maintained their advantage for most of the game. However, in the fourth quarter, Emmanuel Christian managed to tie the score and briefly took a two-point lead. The Panthers stuck to their game plan and regained the lead ending with a final score of 45-37.

Owen McLean was named MVP and Kylan Diehl was named a Provincial All-Star.
