Glenora Curling Club hosts bonspiel

Glenora hosted its second bonspiel of 2025.

This past weekend an open bonspiel was held at the Glenora rink. Starting Friday, 10 – four person teams were entered into the open bonspiel, playing 8-end games in three separate events.

Every team gave it their all, vying for their cut of the cash prizes.
But, really, it’s more than just a game.

It is widely known this town hosts some of the best bonspiels anywhere, and that has been proven again with the huge turnout that was shown at their latest event.

Shawn VanDamme and the other organizers had expected 8 teams to join, but when the count became 10 they were ecstatic!

Curling is the perfect way to bring communities together and nurture friendships.

People from not only Glenora, but also surrounding areas came together to curl and have fun. Whether a team won or lost, everyone was smiling and having a great time. The weekend wasn’t about winning and family, and enjoying the camaraderie.

Several spectators commented, “we just love to come out and watch the games. Seeing the younger kids curling with their parents and learning the game from them, it means that we will have teams for many years to come, and that is important for all of our communities”.

Breakfast was served at the rink on both Saturday and Sunday morning, with one of the breakfast chefs saying, “it was pretty steady”.

The Saturday night steak fry that was open to everyone, was attended by a huge crowd (as it always is). Steak, chicken and hotdogs were served to the 150 hungry supporters in attendance.

This group knows how to grill!

On Sunday the rink was hopping with the final games being played.

Then with the final rocks being thrown, the players exiting the ice and the crowds thinning, it was time to take one last look around and smile.

Another great bonspiel was in the books.
