Sara’s Pantry Annual “Scare Hunger” Food Drive set for October 26
The annual Sara’s Pantry “Scare Hunger” Food Drive returns this Sunday, October 26, as volunteers once again come together to help stock the shelves of the area food bank before the busy winter months. This marks the fourth annual drive supporting local residents who are struggling to make ends meet.
Starting at noon in Glenboro, local volunteer firefighters will be out collecting non-perishable food donations from doorsteps throughout the community. Residents are asked to place their donations in a bag at the edge of their property for easy pickup. All donations gathered by the volunteers will be brought to the front entrance of Glenboro School, where tables will be set up to organize and sort the items.
Cypress River Meats will serve as a drop-off location for residents there, while Baldur School and Baldur Trading will also be acting as collection zones. Cypress River will also be participating by setting up a food box and monetary bin to collect donations during their upcoming Family Fun Day. Everyone who contributes will be entered into a draw for movie passes generously donated by Glenboro’s Gaiety Theatre.
Household cleaners and personal hygiene items are also greatly appreciated. Once again, Sara’s Pantry Operational Manager Charlene Claeys-Godard expressed gratitude for the continued support of local grocery stores, which have been excellent partners by offering shoppers pre-packaged donation bags.
Charlene noted that donations saw a slight dip last year as grocery prices continued to climb, making it harder for many to give. However, she also shared that Sara’s Pantry received many generous donations of fresh garden produce, which were greatly appreciated and helped supplement the food bank’s offerings.
In addition to non-perishable items, monetary donations are also gratefully accepted. This year, Sara’s Pantry has made giving even easier with the addition of a QR code on the flyers mailed out this week. Donating through the QR code is simple. Just scan the code to access a secure link for online donations. E-transfers can also be sent to SarasPantry2020@gmail.com, and gift cards from local grocery stores are welcome as well. Tax receipts will be issued upon request.
Both Baldur and Glenboro schools are also taking part by holding their own food drives. In past years their drives have been very successful and this year is following suit.
Every can, box, and dollar helps ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. The volunteers of Sara’s Pantry and the Glenboro Fire Department thank everyone in advance for their continued generosity and community spirit.
