Cypress River Senior Centre bringing seniors together

Don’t let the calm exterior of the Cypress Senior Centre fool you; inside, it’s a bustling hive of activity with something for everyone!
We spoke with Jeannie Christie, the dynamic President of the Centre, who shared the incredible happenings that make this place a true community gem.

“Shuffleboard is a big hit,” Jeannie explains, her enthusiasm infectious. “We play every afternoon from Monday to Friday, and as long as we have enough players, the fun doesn’t stop!” It’s no wonder so many people flock to play; this social sport is where friendships are made and laughter fills the air.

But wait, there’s more! Wednesday night and Friday afternoon feature exciting card games, perfect for those looking to test their skills.

And Sundays? Picture this: coffee, chatter, and, if the spirit moves you, a friendly round of shuffleboard. It’s the perfect way to kick off the week!

The Centre also boasts two pool tables that anyone can use for free, along with a variety of cues – ideal for honing your skills or engaging in some light-hearted competition. Plus, board game enthusiasts will delight in the fantastic selection generously donated by Sunrise Credit Union, ensuring endless entertainment.
Feeling hungry? You’re in luck! The Cypress River MILES program provides tasty congregate lunch meals every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sharing a meal while connecting with friends truly enhances the experience!

In addition to games and meals, the Centre hosts informative sessions and lively musical performances throughout the year. Whether you’re eager to learn something new or simply enjoy good music, there’s always something happening!

Looking for a venue for your next big gathering?

The Centre is available for rent and comes fully equipped with a kitchen, making it an ideal spot for any event.

“The best part is the sense of belonging,” Jeannie notes. “We have a blast, share stories, and create lasting memories. Everyone is welcomed with open arms, and our low membership fees ensure that everyone can join the fun.”

If you are on the lookout for a warm, inclusive community where you can have a great time and connect with others, the Senior Centre is your answer!
