Blair and Bobbi Rankin inducted into the Canadian Hereford Association honour roll

Blair and Bobbi Rankin are not just names; they represent the pinnacle of excellence in the Hereford cattle industry, having proudly been inducted into the Canadian Hereford Association Honour Roll.

When reflecting on this prestigious recognition, Blair expressed his surprise and gratitude, stating, ‘It is such an honour to be recognized by our fellow breeders.’

The criteria for induction into the Canadian Hereford Association (CHA) Honour Roll are rigorous:

‘The Canadian Hereford Association honours individuals who are recognized as leaders in the development of the Hereford breed in Canada. This award is not limited to Hereford breeders. Guidelines for the award recognize that many people on the perimeters of the Hereford industry make outstanding contributions as employees, elected representatives, research scientists, livestock specialists, etc. For these reasons, it is the intention of the Canadian Hereford Association to consider everyone associated with the Hereford industry in bestowing such awards.

We place on the Honour Roll those persons who we deem to have been the most instrumental to the well-being of the industry.

It is not a coincidence that those persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the Hereford industry are also very much involved with their families and in community affairs. In many instances, while we know them best for their leadership in the Hereford industry, they are also leaders in other phases of agricultural production. The assistance and knowledge of such men and women improve the well-being of everyone who comes into contact with them. Many of the Canadian Hereford industry leaders have been recognized nationally and internationally for their unselfish dedication to the improvement of life for their fellow man.”

It is noteworthy that the Rankin family has a longstanding legacy in the industry; according to the August edition of the Canadian Hereford Digest, that, ‘in 2021, the Rankin family received the Canadian Hereford Association 100-year pin, and in 2023, Blair was awarded his 50-year Canadian Hereford Association membership pin.’

Moreover, Blair stands out as a third-generation Honour Roll inductee, following in the esteemed footsteps of his father and grandfather.

For those unfamiliar with this remarkable couple, here is a brief introduction:

Blair, a third-generation Hereford breeder, married Bobbi (the 1980 Hereford Queen) in 1981.

Together, they not only managed their farm but also raised two accomplished daughters, Abby (married to Chris) Wytinck, who together have established a successful mixed farm in Glenboro, and Dana (married to Bill) Kyle, who together have built a thriving grain farm in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Blair shared that when their daughters were young, they were involved in the Junior Hereford Program. “This Program was great for the kids, and we enjoyed it as well. We all got to travel across Canada, and it allowed the girls to meet kids from other places, who shared the same interests, creating lasting memories and developing friendships across Canada.”

The Rankins’ participation in the Junior Hereford Program showcases their commitment to fostering the next generation of breeders. Blair remarks, ‘Our farm and our Hereford cattle have provided us with countless memorable experiences and connections with amazing people.’

The exceptional lineage of the Rankin’s Hereford cattle is recognized globally, with their animals being exported to various regions around the world. Beyond their professional accomplishments, Blair and Bobbi have consistently demonstrated their dedication to their community by serving on numerous boards and actively volunteering.
