Baldur Clinic to reopen once a week beginning in May
The news of a doctor returning to the Baldur Clinic one day a week is very welcome, and a giant step forward.
Prairie Mountain Health CEO, Brian Schoonbaert, reached out to the writer with the following update for our readers: “Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) remains fully committed to having the most services we can, based on available staffing, which includes access to physician coverage for primary care.
“Dr. Desmond, who is a retired physician, has provided invaluable service to PMH by offering locum services in many communities, and has chosen to work in Glenboro since Dr. Swanepoel retired. He has been providing coverage to the Baldur Personal Care Home and Transitional Care Unit during this time one half-day a week.
“He has recently agreed to expand his one-day-a-week service at Baldur to provide clinic services from May until November. PMH will continue to work with Dr. Desmond on his allocated time to provide services to the medical clinic and PMH.
“PMH is constantly recruiting to address physician vacancies and continues to make every effort with a number of recruitment and retention initiatives as well as physician models of care, with the Province and Shared Health. We continue to engage and support our communities through recruitment and retention grants, return of service agreements, and other community- minded incentives aimed at increasing the complement of health- care professionals within our health region.”
