Driving into Baldur last week I noticed a newCrime Stoppers sign had been put up!
One of the big draws of living in a small town is the low crime rate we all enjoy, but this control on crime doesn’t just happen by chance.
Most small towns work in cooperation with local RCMP detachments to host Neighbourhood Crime Watch programs (NCW) as well as promoting the Manitoba Crime Stoppers program.
NCW programs are groups of individuals from their home areas who take turns patrolling their respective towns during late night and early morning hours, maintaining a physical presence to help ward off potential crimes.
There has been an enormous amount of data shared from many sources showing that having a physical presence of eyes and ears is enough to help thwart potential criminal activity.
Recently, many small towns within Manitoba received new Manitoba Crime Stoppers signs to post throughout their region to promote the program.
During the November 2022 meeting of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) attended by our various local municipal delegates, there were discussions with Manitoba Crime Stoppers Board members regarding a proposed signage project being planned.
According to Boris Nowasad, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Manitoba Crime Stoppers; “The signs were developed with joint input from Manitoba Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, AMM and the RCMP. The signs are all-weather aluminium, UV stable and can be mounted at the locations of your choice.”

The Manitoba Crime Stoppers website hosts a lot of information about Crime Stoppers, crimes, including murders and missing persons where investigations are ongoing.
