Prairie Mountain Health hires new CEO

On November 9, 2023, news was released that Brian Schoonbaert, CEO of Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) would be retiring April 5, 2024. Brian replaced past CEO Penny Gilson who held the position from 2012 until her retirement in 2021.

After Brian’s retirement announcement, PMH began an extensive cross Canada search for a replacement – which was successful.

Replacing Brian Schoonbaert as CEO will be Treena Slate. She has an impressive 30 year career in healthcare, most recently holding the position of Regional Lead-Acute Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for Prairie Mountain Health.

According to Board of Director Lon Cullen, “Treena is a familiar face for many in Prairie Mountain Health and the province. With over 30 years in healthcare and 15 years in a leadership role, Treena is bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge into the role of Chief Executive Officer.”

Thank you Brian Schoonbaert for a job well done and we wish you the very best. He shared that he is looking forward to being able to spend more time with his wife Mary Jane, their 6 children and 18 grandchildren.

We welcome Treena Slate to her new CEO position. Her well rounded experience makes her the perfect candidate for this demanding job.
