Donation account established to help Jaydan Morrison with his serious health issue

Jaydan Morrison, son of Tammy and Keith Morrison, is a happy go lucky 13 year-old that is much like other active kids his age.

According to his mom Tammy, Jaydan is very into Cadets and video games, has many friends, and loves spending time with his family camping and quadding.

The Morrison family is like many other families, just living life and having fun. Unfortunately for this beautiful family, they are currently facing a challenge that has shaken them to the core – on January 21st, 2024 Jaydan was diagnosed with B cell leukaemia.

According to Tammy, it all started with Jaydan having a sore hip that was initially thought to be growing pains, but Tammy thought it might be a good idea to get it investigated a little further as boys are rough and tumble and maybe he pulled a muscle or something.

Visiting the doctor in Glenboro on Tuesday, just a few days after Jaydan mentioned the pain in his hip, the doctor did all the appropriate tests including a blood test.

Calling the family Thursday, a mere two days later, the doctor explained that although all the other tests done were clear, the blood test showed an infection and an appointment was made at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg as a follow up to find the source of the infection. The next day the family set off for Winnipeg.

More tests ensued including a bone marrow biopsy that quickly uncovered the cause of the infection detected mere days earlier.

No one could have prepared the family for the results – Jaydan had B cell leukaemia.

A treatment team of experts were rapidly assembled and a treatment plan was drafted. The best way to deal with a disease such as B cell leukaemia is to attack it quickly and with all the medical ammunition available, but the road to healing is an extremely long one. Preparations and treatments started immediately with some very painful procedures needing to be done.

Tammy shared that Jaydan has been so incredibly strong through everything.

Lumbar punctures, also known as spinal taps, are something that Jaydan has already gone through and will continue to have to endure at least once a week for the next four weeks, as well as two rounds of chemotherapy administered twice a week.

Although Jayden doesn’t have to stay in the hospital for the next two months while receiving these treatments, they have to keep him close to the hospital as a precautionary measure. It is imperative that Jaydan receives immediate medical intervention if the need arises. To enable Jaydan to be near the hospital, they will be staying at a Ronald McDonald House.

While Jaydan undergoes these lifesaving treatments, his 10 year-old sister Hayley is being taken care of back at home by her caring Grandmother.

This much loved family is currently going through a nightmarish experience that few of us can understand, but their strength is immeasurable and they will do whatever it takes to get Jaydan healthy and back home where he should be.

Tammy has asked me to share a huge thank you from the Morrison family to be shared with everyone who has been so kind. The outpouring of heartfelt support has been overwhelming and so very welcome. The financial burden on this family will be crushing adding to the peaking stress of trying to ensure their son is given the best care possible and supporting him, as well as missing little Hayley.

I have received numerous calls and messages from our readers asking about the family. So many community members have this family in their thoughts and prayers – feeling helpless but wanting to do whatever they can to help.
