New handivan on order for R.M. of Argyle
We were able to catch up with Ayeh Arta, the CAO for the RM of Argyle, to talk about two major grant, amounts awarded to the RM of Argyle during 2023.
The first one is the Rural Transit Solutions Fund (RTSF):
According to the government website, ‘the Rural Transit Solutions Fund seeks to help Canadians living in rural and remote areas get around their communities more easily for their day-to- day activities, and connect with other communities nearby.’
‘The Rural Transit Solutions Fund is the first federal fund to target the development of transit solutions in rural and remote communities. Launched in 2021, the Fund provides $250 million in federal funding over 5 years to support the development of locally-driven transit solutions that will help people living in rural communities get to work, school, appointments, and to visit loved ones.’
The R.M. of Argyle was successful in obtaining a grant of $119,033 (which covers 80% of the entire cost) for a new handi van!
After much consultation with all levels of Care Home staff and well as the handi van drivers to discuss the specific needs that must be met, a new unit was designed and submitted for fabrication.
Ordered in 2023, it takes time for these vehicles to be manufactured to particular specifications. Its much anticipated delivery will be in 2024.
The other large grant that was secured by the RM was $43,720 from the Municipal Capacity Building Fund (MCBF).
The government website explains the MCBF as follows: ‘The Municipal Capacity Building Fund is a new, application- based grant program that will help Manitoba municipalities undertake local and regional long-term infrastructure planning, such as the development of asset management plans.’
The MCBF grant covered the cost of the CCTV sewer camera inspection for the Town of Baldur as well as some of the bridge maintenance work being done by Pier Solutions.
Being able to successfully secure grant monies through a wide variety of entities ensures rural areas can continue to thrive and grow.
