Belmont & District Historical Society holds AGM
Belmont & District Historical Society held its Annual General Meeting on May 7, 2024 at the Belmont Museum.
A small group attended to discuss the year past, and to plan for the year ahead.
It was discussed that because hiring a summer student this year was not possible, it was hoped that the Board and other volunteers would be able to come together and ensure the Museum was open at least every Saturday afternoon and of course by appointment.
There will also be several fundraisers held over the course of the next several months, including:
* July 13 – the Annual Appreciation Day with hot dogs and cake being served.
* August long weekend – Town wide yard sales are held this weekend, a Museum open house and the draw for a basket filled with a variety of handcrafted items created by local artisans.
* Fall – Mom’s Pantry sale and Ghosts in the Graveyard.
It was noted that many new items had been shared with the Museum for display. This means more display space is required to share the items with the public. A perfect solution was quickly found and planning is currently underway. The underutilized basement will be transformed into a bright and delightfully functional space celebrating the rich historical wealth of each individual item.
In order to ready the basement and complete its transformation, volunteers are needed to fix the floors and walls before installing displays.
The group was in agreement when discussing the difficulties faced when trying to attract volunteers – but this group is not giving up!
The Belmont Museum will be open Saturday afternoons starting the first weekend in June.
A museum tour can also be booked by appointment by contacting a Board member.
Our local Museums are filled with stories and priceless artifacts from our past, just waiting to be discovered! What are you waiting for?
If you would like to volunteer, perhaps you have something special that could be added to the basket that will be raffled on the August long weekend, or would like to book a Museum Tour, please contact one of the following Board members: Deb Alcock, Tracy Manning, Dennis Myers, Bruce Sharp, Deb Durham and Vicki Gillingham.
