Exceptional artist shares her talents at Baldur School
Jeanine Turnbull was in Baldur last week to give art lessons to a group of students at Baldur School.
I was able to speak with this exceptional artist who has a gift for helping everyone to release their inner artist.
Jeanine started painting 30 or so years ago, being mostly self taught. Years after starting, she took her first art class at North Light Art School. After this, she knew she wanted to share and teach others the many personal benefits of painting. She went on to say; “It is fulfilling when teaching painting to children – watching them gain confidence and connect with their creation – all the while knowing – this could be the beginning of a lifetime of art for each one of them.”
Everyone, no matter what their age, can benefit from learning to paint.
Case in point, Jeanine pointed out; “Seniors involved in painting tend to become more observant”, but there are many other benefits for seniors including fewer heart problems, less depression and fewer cognitive issues.
Jeanine also mentioned she has also taken a therapeutic arts course, which was very informative and a great help when teaching classes. Art has been used for thousands of years for healing, self-expression and communication, but breaking down and organizing the components makes it easier for the user to share and others to more fully benefit from the exercise.
Jeanine was originally from Winnipeg, moving to Mather over twenty years ago to be with her love. When she first arrived, she took a job as a teaching assistant where she used art as an incentive for the students – and they loved it!
After taking a job at the local hospital, she would teach art to anyone who was interested, using lunch breaks as art class time.
Now Jeanine hosts art lessons all over, fully enjoying sharing her exquisite talent, meeting others, showing people the potential they may not have realized they had, and opening doors to new experiences – in short, Jeanine makes the world a more beautiful place for so many.
Jeanine has an obvious passion melded with an exquisite artistic talent and an added large splash of genuine care for others – and it definitely shows!

Writers Notation: During our discussion, I shared with Jeanine I was hopeless when it came to anything artistic, telling her the story of my drawing a stick dog and being asked at the time if it was in fact a tree, not a dog. Even after hearing the story, she was very certain that I could create an art piece. (I will be taking a class and I will be sharing the results with our readers).
