2024 King Farmers named at Cypress River Fair
The Cypress River Agricultural Society hosted its 129th Agricultural Fair and during the Fair, the 2024 King Farmer was named!
The road to being crowned King Farmer is not a smooth one, (but it is really fun to participate in and watch). It is pitted with a variety of gruelling and some seemingly impossible tasks set up at several stations.
Some of the tasks that had to be performed to prove that one King Farmer team was better were:
* Backing up a quad – not as easy as it looks apparently
* A bale toss – way up and over
* Weed identification n Setting up electric fencing and testing the current flow – this particular station was electrifying!
* Guessing the number of bushels of oats in a truck.
* And several more fun farm related tasks
After the dust settled and the scores had been counted there was one team that rose above the rest.
So who was named the 2024 King Farmer?
Alexander and his dad Francois Gie!!
We were able to speak with Francois who was quite surprised he and his son had taken first place.
‘It was great fun’, he said, ‘I told Alexander that if we won he could have the winnings.’ Alexander was thrilled with the fun competition, their win and the winnings, with Francois adding, ‘Alexander, very generously took us all out for ice cream on the way home!’
Francois went on to say there was a good crowd at the Fair and the volunteers did a great job and put so much time and effort into making the Fair fun for everyone. ‘It was great to see so many people in attendance. It is so important to support as many of our local events as we can. They are great fun.’
The final question I asked Francois was how being crowned King Farmer 2024 was going to affect him. He thought for a moment and said tongue in cheek, ‘well, I will be telling everyone I meet about it, but after a week or so life will be back to normal.’
It is always fun to talk with Francois who openly shares his refreshing sense of humour and his obvious love of community!
