Bearded dragons touted as one of the more popular pets
Touted as one of the More popular pets kept (this does not include cats or dogs), the pogona, or more commonly known as bearded dragon is said to be gentle, inquisitive and, in their own way, loving.
Found in the wild over much of Australia, they are now found in captivity throughout the world.
Looking like a tiny, non fire breathing dragon covered with little spikes, this tiny dragon can puff up its spiky chin when the feeling strikes, giving this little cute little pet the name bearded dragon.
Being omnivores, they enjoy fruits and some flowers, but many younger pets may prefer a tasty cricket or other crunchy beetle.
There is one really strange thing about bearded dragons that our warm blooded pets can not do. Reptiles lay eggs, and if during the incubation of bearded dragon eggs temperatures are unusually high, the developing male embryos will develop into females. Odd, but true.
Bearded dragons cannot be removed from Australia which means all of the bearded dragons available outside of Australia for pets are bred and raised in captivity.
Generally this makes the animal a more calm and gentle pet that is more tolerant of people, noise and general household activity. Keep in mind, like everyone else, each dragon has its own personality including likes and dislikes.
Before you get any pet, it is crucial you do your homework. You may think that a bearded dragon is suitable for your home and lifestyle, but you may be wrong.
