Walk together to raise awareness and funds for the Manitoba Down Syndrome Society
Kassandra Wytinck is a ball of energy and that was one of the many reasons she and husband Nick Sundell, who are also the proud parents of two of the cutest kids, have organized the Holland Down Syndrome Walk With Us Event.
Taking place at the Holland Ag Grounds on September 22, the hot dog BBQ lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., and will be served until 1 p.m. Immediately following lunch (approximately 1:15) a walk around Holland will begin.
You choose how far you want to walk.
The grounds have Belgian Bowling lanes so you are welcome to come down and play a few games before the walk.
Taylor Michiels from Sierra Jade Photography will also have a photobooth set up for a minimum $10 donation.
Kassandra spoke to us about the Walk With Us Event and why they decided to bring it to Holland.
“Last year when I started fundraising for the Winnipeg Walk With Us Event, I was blown away by the generosity and support from the whole community. In this past year, we have learned a lot about Down Syndrome and thought bringing the walk to Holland would be a great opportunity to show there are differences in this world and being different is beautiful. Choose kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.”
The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society (MDSS) website hosts a wealth of information including news, events, resources, social clubs and so much more. They share that no matter where a Walk With Us Event is hosted, “it is more than just a walk – it’s a chance to be part of a community that embraces every triumph and faces every challenge together.”
MDSS says it best; “Every step you take helps us create a more inclusive and supportive world for those with Down syndrome. Let’s walk, celebrate, and make a difference together!”
As if fun, food and friends wasn’t enough, there is also a 50/50 pot that is up for grabs.
The current take home total (and this is a couple of days old so I am sure it is much more) is a whopping $685!
The Cypress Sunrise Credit Union generously donated $250 to start the 50/50 pot that has continued to grow.
