Tracy and Daryle Manning bring checkers to Belmont. “Our front window offers a fantastic view of the little park,” said Belmont resident Tracy Manning. “I absolutely love it and it’s incredible to see how many people take the time to enjoy this beautiful space!”
Tracy and Daryle Manning are always on the move, whether at home or on one of their exciting adventures.
During one of their visits to a Rivers campground, they discovered checkerboards and pieces set up for play. “We had an absolute blast playing checkers, and it sparked the idea to bring something similar to the park area in Belmont. We thought it would be a perfect addition that we were eager to see implemented!”
Before leaving Rivers, Tracy got the measurements of their board and started making a plan.
After receiving the necessary approval from the RM of Prairie Lakes to install the checkerboard, the next step was to make the game.
Tracy had already done the hard work and gave Daryle (the now master woodcrafter) the measurements.
He then set out to recreate what they had seen in Rivers, and as you can see by the photograph, it is perfect.
The Belmont Playground Committee supplied the paint that Tracy used to add colour to the board.
Armed with the completed board and the playing pieces, the couple installed the wooden game board on one of the picnic tables, adding a covered bucket to hold the coloured wooden disks.
Tracy admits she and Daryle are always looking for new and interesting ideas, and thought maybe with the playhouses and the inviting shaded areas under the large trees, establishing a tiny library filled with short stories would be a fantastic way to encourage families to unwind and enjoy the lush green space.
If you haven’t taken your kids to check out the Belmont playground lately, maybe now is the perfect time to pack a picnic and head over for a fun-filled day.
